Trichologist Dr Shahid Shamsher talks about a condition called premature ageing where there is both early age baldness and graying of hair, often resulting from stress.
How does stress cause premature ageing?
When there is continual stress over a period of 1-2 years, it causes damage in the hair root cells, leading to both lack of new hair growth and early graying and so the hair ends up looking much older than the body.
Which other factors also cause this?
Frequent travelling and change of water from relocation are the other most common reasons. In this condition the graying also starts early in other parts of the body as well, like eyebrows and eyelashes in women, and beard and moustache in men. The graying then spreads all over, like arms, legs and even sometimes in odd places like inside the nose and in the private parts.
