Even after thyroid is treated, yet losing hair. Trichologist Dr Shahid Shamsher tells us why.

Thyroid disorders cause two types of hair loss. One is a severe, but short lived, condition called telogen effluvium where the hair fall comes under control as the thyroid functioning improves, and therefore does not need separate treatment. The other condition, seen increasingly with thyroid problems nowadays, is patterned baldness or the male type baldness. Here the thyroid disorder triggers off the baldness, which then becomes a self perpetuating entity, so that even after the thyroid problem comes under control, the hair loss continues unabated. If you suffer from the second variety it would be best to get it diagnosed and treated early.
