Hair fall After Coming to Bangalore

Trichologist, Dr Shahid Shamsher, tells us the how and why’s of losing hair after relocating to Bangalore. Broadly speaking there are 3 reasons why many people lose hair after shifting to Bangalore.

Reason No 1 – Hair Loss due to Water Change

It is not a question of good water or bad water, hard water or soft water. Just the fact that you are now washing with water which is different in type and make from the water you were using earlier, can trigger off the hair loss. Typically it causes a condition called Telogen Effluvium but fortunately in most such cases hair fall becomes normal on its own within 2-3 months. If however your hair loss is persisting even after that, then it would be a matter of concern. FYI, using mineral water to wash as many people are wont to, does not help, because it’s still a case of change of water.

Reason No 2 – Hair Loss due to Scalp infections

A lot of people who have hair loss due to change of water adopt a very simple method to deal with it – they stop washing hair. Now while it may sound theoretically good, sadly it does not work out at all in practice because most such people end up catching scalp infections, which in turn causes even more hair loss. After all if you are allergic to the pollution in the air, you don’t stop breathing all together.

Reason No 3 – Hair Loss due to Stress

If you are relocating every 2-3 years, and doing it with your entire family, then there is scope of stress affecting you. Stress does not always have to be in the form of sleepless nights. Settling in a new house with new neighbours, loss of old friends, finding new servants, getting your child admitted in a new school all of that is stress as well and if you are anxious by nature, would certainly add to the problem of hair loss.
