Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease with an ability to spread any where on the body. In a few cases it may stay localized to certain areas only and feet are one of the commonest areas of affection. When it occurs on the feet the disability however can be quite out of proportion to the extent of the disease. The cracks on the feet can cause excruciating pain while walking as the entire body weight rests on the feet. Further more Psoriatic lesions appear easily on sites of injury. Feet are more prone to wear and tear and are therefore prone to newer lesions from time to time. Working in water for washing clothes or cooking can cause Psoriasis on the feet to flare-up. Walking bare feet at home can expose the cracks on the feet to dust and cause infection. Jogging, standing for long hours, use of ill-fitting sandals or foot wear, lack of moisturizing can also trigger feet psoriasis. Psoriasis of the feet can respond well to treatment by minimizing the exposure to the above triggers and by following good skin care of the feet. Soaking feet in warm salted water for 10 minutes twice in a day helps to keep them soft and also improves absorption of the prescription ointment. A foot bath is recommended twice in a day with thorough cleansing of the feet, web spaces and the toe nails. The prescription ointment should be applied sparingly and the excess should be wiped off after 10 minutes. Choose light weight and comfortable foot wear which can protect your feet from external pollutants as well as keep them well ventilated.
