Skin that is oily in some parts but dry or normal in others is called a combination skin. In most cases, the oily skin is concentrated on the T-zone, which is across the forehead, down the nose and chin. After washing, combination skin usually tends to feel tight and stretched. By mid-day combination skin looks dull and appears waxy around the T-zone and dry and flaky on the cheeks. If neglected, combination skin has a potential of becoming a problem skin. The skin on the face becomes so sensitive that it breaks out with the smallest trigger like sun exposure, a facial treatment at the parlor or the use of any new skin care product. These frequent bouts of allergies can alter the texture of the skin leading to dark and coarse areas around the nose and mouth. People with combination skin also tend to tan many times faster when sun exposed leading to pigmentation problems and uneven skin tone. Dealing with combination skin is all about striking the right balance. Because you have to deal with two different skin types, you need to choose a routine that works for both of them. However contrary to popular belief there is nothing very complicated about handling combination skin. While sometimes it is required to use different products for different parts of the skin, the basic skin care needs to be kept simple as the use of too many products may actually confuse the skin. The idea is to never overdo on skin care; even make-up needs to be minimum. For most people, cleansing, moisturizing and exfoliating are sufficient. Others may require special blotting sheets and oil absorbing face masks to maintain a clear skin.
