There sure is a connection between acne and junk food. Along with other factors  like heredity, hormones, stress, skin type and environmental factors, certain foods do act as triggers and lead to acne breakouts. The foods which are often blamed are chocolates, pizzas, dairy products, burgers, french fries, pastries and donuts. These foods have a high glycemic index and when consumed cause increased insulin production. This sets up a chain reaction causing excess skin oil production triggering acne breakouts. A recent study had infact shown that teens on junk food had twice as much acne as compared to those who avoided junk food. Also if you eat too much of junk food, you may not get enough vitamins and minerals from the healthy food that you are missing. So your mom is absolutely right when she advises you to not eat junk food. Along with avoiding junk food, it is also important for you to eat a balanced diet.
