Around the world, false beliefs prevail about white patches. By debunking some myths we hope to change false perceptions and get rid of the stigma attached to them. White patches are not caused by drinking milk, curd, or other white-colored foods.

They are also not caused by drinking milk over fish. White patches are not contagious and cannot be contracted from another person’s touch, saliva, or blood. White patches do not necessarily spread, most people have localized patches and spots which can be re-pigmented.

The patches are not forms of leprosy. Leprosy is a bacterial infection of the skin causing abscesses and nerve damage. White patches on the other hand are merely a localized loss of skin color and cause no physical impairment at all.
