Scientists at the Banaras Hindu University in Uttar Pradesh have found chickpeas or “cholay” to be very effective in the treatment of white patches. During their study, they used an ointment prepared from chickpeas and also recommended patients to consume chickpeas in their regular diet. The combination was found to produce favorable results and the patches repigmented faster. White patches is a chronic pigment disorder and the treatment usually lasts for a long time. Chickpeas are rich in amino acids. The study suggested the role of amino acids in the faster synthesis of melanin and thus faster repigmentation of the white patches.
