Trichologist Dr. Shahid Shamsher tell us how Scalp Infections make you go balder much faster.
Q 1. What are the different types of scalp infections?
The more common are bacterial and fungal. Bacterial infections cause painful boils and pimples, but often do not cause much hair loss. Fungal infections on the other hand appear in the form dandruff and persistent flakes which do not go away in spite of repeated shampooing. They also cause a lot of itching and can hasten the baldness considerably.
Q 2. Do people with baldness get infections more often?
Yes. One reason for this is that a lot of patients with hair loss also have excess oil secretion on their scalps, a substance called sebum. This is often a source of food for the fungal infections which then latch onto the scalp very easily and accelerate the hair fall. Thus while the regular baldness starts at a later age and proceeds slowly, with a complicating fungal infection, the whole thing can not only start early, but lead to baldness much faster. This is the reason many a times you find the balding by 25, whereas the father lost hair after the age of 40.
